We have an immediate vacancy for an experienced industrial sewing machine operator/seamstress based in our production facility here in Caldicot. Hours are flexible to suit demand during a normal day shift, averaging approx 16 hrs per week.

Our production facility is busy assembling a huge bespoke twin-skinned BioSphere gasholder for export to a client in the USA. Measuring 29 metres in diameter and with a height of 13 metres, this gasholder is one of the largest we’ve ever made a capacity of 5,500 cubic metres, and was assembled using high-frequency welding from 18 metre long panels of Type 3 reinforced Polyester/PVC membrane.
Two of our Group delegates Andrew Jerrum (Managing Director, Manufacturing) and Gary Patterson (Director, Structures) are currently exhibiting at the 2017 Industrial Fabrics Association International Expo in the USA. Our Biogas Systems division recently completed the design, manufacture and installation of two 15 metre diameter tank-mounted BioSphere membrane roofs, including bespoke membrane catcher systems.
The project was completed in close collaboration with our partners in Australia for the end client, Sydney Water. These BioSphere membrane roofs are of a unique design whereby the inner and outer membranes are joined by a special stainless steel component.
A sure sign that winter is well and truly behind us, the AJ Tensile crew attended Coolhurst Tennis and Squash Club in Crouch End, London this week for the annual tennis dome removal in time for the summer season. The whole operation of deflation, packing and on-site storage takes less than a day, generating no mess and with minimal disruption. Our inflatable fabric dome allows the club to offer year-round play in anything the British weather can throw at it, allowing natural light in during the day and using an ingenious reflective floodlight system for night-time illumination. Mounted on top of a steel plinth, this small BioSphere gasholder was recently installed by our Biogas team at Kilmington, near Axminster in Devon for South West Water. Measuring 200 cubic metres when fully inflated, the dome was designed and manufactured at our production plant in Caldicot in close collaboration with our client Nomenca Ltd, with ductwork and piping manufactured by Grail Engineering to our design.
Our Biogas division recently completed a medium-sized gasholder for a South West Water plant at Hayle near St Erth in Cornwall. Measuring 570 cubic metres, the Polyester-reinforced PVC BioSphere gas dome was designed and manufactured at our production facility in Caldicot in close collaboration with our client, Tecker Ltd, and installed on top of an elevated concrete plinth. Ductwork was manufactured and supplied by Compass Ltd to our own design. For increased accuracy a laser level sensor was selected to monitor the storage volume rather than the alternative ultrasound sensor.

Our Manufacturing division recently completed this impressive 70m x 25m four-part building wrap in Hyde Park for one of our established clients.
The image is taken from artist Sir Peter Blake’s collage of regular prominent guests of the Mandarin Hotel, done in the spirit of The Beatles’ 1967 album cover for Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Blake was commissioned by the Mandarin Hotel to create artwork to cover the building facade during renovation work.
The images were printed onto PVC banner material in 5m x 25m strips which were then welded into larger sections. These were then assembled on-site during installation with barely-noticeable joints. The whole project was very fast track with a manufacturing and delivery window of only three days.
The final result was stunning and received numerous commendations, with the hotel management saying “We really cannot thank you enough for all your help and support with this project – it looks amazing”, and our own client adding “Amazing job guys. Thank you!”.
AJ Tensile were recently invited by Star Events to play an important role in the global launch of the brand-new fifth generation Land Rover Discovery SUV in the grounds of Packington Hall, Warwickshire, UK – close to the Land Rover plant in Solihull, where the all-new Discovery will be produced. Our involvement was in the design and construction of a 22m x 14m black prism to conceal the vehicles prior to the reveal, and construction of a 35m x 10m pond liner for the vehicles to splash through.
The set was constructed from 5,805,846 individual LEGO bricks, breaking the previous Guinness World Record by almost half a million pieces. Laid end to end, the bricks would stretch for almost 200 miles. Led by the UK’s only LEGO Certified Professional, Duncan Titmarsh, it took five months for expert LEGO Master Builders in the UK to construct the incredible Tower Bridge structure.
As part of the dramatic reveal sequence, British adventurer Bear Grylls appeared in typically exciting fashion by abseiling from a helicopter to the top of the huge Tower Bridge installation, through the open drawbridge and onto the stage beside the all-new Discovery. Sir Ben Ainslie, the most successful sailor in Olympic history, and Zara Philips MBE also took active roles in the event as can be seen in the following video:
