New Biosphere Tank Tops, Washington State

Our Biogas division recently completed two 40′ diameter ‘tank top’ membrane roofs for municipal sludge digesters at South Kitsap, West Sound in Washington State USA. These roofs were a completely bespoke design that avoided the use of problematic restraint cables, a strict requirement for this particular project. The roofs were designed and fabricated in-house at our production facility and shipped by sea for installation by our American partners. The roofs have been in use since July 2015 and the client is reportedly extremely happy with the entire project.

Following a productive round of business meetings ‘down under’, our Biogas Director Richard Cherry is pleased to announce our first collaboration with Australian industrial biogas specialists Eneraque. The project consists of the design, engineering and fabrication of two 15.5m diameter membrane digester roofs at Woolongong Waste Recovery Facility for Sydney Water. Delivery is planned for March 2016 ready for installation in April 2016.

AJTF attends WaterAid charity fundraiser

groupFour of us recently donned our penguin suits for a lavish charity bash at the splendid Tortworth Court Four Pillars Hotel in Wotton-under-Edge, organised by Nomenca Ltd as part of their committed fundraising work for WaterAid. The evening was an overwhelming success with fine dining, good company, interesting conversation and excellent networking opportunities.

Of far greater importance, however, were the many thousands of pounds raised for a very worthy cause: delivering safe water, sanitation and hygiene projects in twenty-six countries around the world. Thanks once again to Nomenca for the invitation and to Tortworth Court for hosting the event.

One from the archives here..! We recently found these photos in the bottom of a drawer and thought we’d give them an airing. In 2010 we sent a team to the USA to work with one of our American partners in Cincinnati, providing expertise and hands-on training while finishing and detailing a membrane structure that we had originally part-fabricated at our production facility back in Britain. It was a very intense but enjoyable few days, and it’s always interesting to see how things are done just that little bit differently on the other side of the pond. Whether we are working in the UK, mainland Europe or the rest of the world, we always do our very best to provide the highest level of service to all of our customers.

Our Biogas Systems division was approached to urgently replace a severely-damaged gasholder resulting from an electrical failure at a plant at Ilmajoki in the west of Finland. Some of the ancillary equipment such as air inflation fans and level detection equipment was still fit for purpose, but the replacement of the gasholder itself required immediate action.

Feeling the pressure

At AJ Tensile we take the quality of our work very seriously, and that includes diligently testing the products we manufacture. This little 750 cubic metre single-skin PVC biogas bag, shaped to fit within an existing building in Lancaster, was carefully inflated to its working pressure over a period of several hours and tested to ensure it remained airtight.
